Wendell Layne Carter

Wendell Layne Carter, 68, of Cordell, Oklahoma passed away July 28, 2022. Wendell was born on December 25, 1953 to Otis Cortez and Bertha Louise (Patton) Carter in Sentinel, Oklahoma. Wendell grew up and attended school in Cordell before graduating from Lawton High School in 1975. He later joined the Army in January of 1973 and served until 1975. Wendell worked as a rock hauler as well as other services in the trucking industry. He spent some time working in the oilfield as well. Wendell will be
greatly missed by all of those who loved and knew him. He always enjoyed taking his nieces and nephews fishing. He also used to love riding his Harley. He was lovingly known by his family as "Wendy".

He is survived by four brothers and sisters, Randy Carter, Ronnie Carter, Cindy Walker and Lana Clayton.
Seven nieces and nephews, Lisa Wandrie, Mike Carter, Derrick Walker, Cody Carter, Kelsey Smith, Lindsey Baker and Ryan Walsh. Eleven great nieces and nephews and one great-great nephew. As well as LARGE group of family and friends.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, maternal grandparents James and Maggie (Rigney) Patton, paternal grandparents Granville and Rachel (Belter) Carter. He was also proceeded in death by his brother Darrell Carter.

Memorial Service will be held on August 13, 2022, 2-4 p.m., at Cordell Park.
