Stephfon Chance Smith, 23, passed away on October 2, 2026. He was born May 7, 2003, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Donnie Mae Smith and Leon Washington Sr.
Stephfon grew up in Hobart, Oklahoma, before moving to Frisco, Texas, in 2019, where he later graduated high school in 2021. But there was much more to Stephfon than the dates and places that tell the story of his life.
If you knew Stephfon, you knew he loved to laugh. You probably heard him talking trash while playing video games, joking with his friends, messing with somebody in the family, or keeping all the little kids entertained. He had a personality that was completely his own, and being around the people he loved was where he was happiest.
Stephfon was incredibly creative. He loved to draw and write, but music became one of the biggest ways he expressed himself. He was an aspiring musician and songwriter who created more than 100 songs. His ability with words wasn't limited to music. Whether he was writing lyrics, stories, or even a school paper, Stephfon could put his thoughts and feelings into words in a way that was uniquely his. Today, those words mean even more to the people who loved him.
Family was at the center of Stephfon's life. His grandmother, Seveila Smith, was his hero. He looked up to her deeply and spent much of his life wanting to make her proud. The bond they shared helped shape the person he became, and her influence remained with him throughout his life.
Stephfon loved all of his nieces, nephews, and cousins, and he shared an especially close bond with his nieces, Brooklyn and Brianna, and his cousin Chevy. He wasn't the uncle or older cousin sitting off to the side-he was right there with them, playing games, joking around, making them laugh, sharing music, and probably talking a little trash along the way. Kids naturally gravitated toward Stephfon because he gave them his time and made being around him fun. Some of their best memories of him will be the simple ones: hanging out, laughing, playing, and just being together.
His friends were also an important part of his life. Whether they were making music together, gaming, talking trash, laughing, or simply hanging out, Stephfon valued the friendships he built and the memories they made together.
Twenty-three years was nowhere near enough time. But Stephfon left behind something that time cannot erase. He left his voice in more than 100 songs, his thoughts in his writing, his creativity in his artwork, and memories in every person who had the opportunity to know and love him.
There will never be another Stephfon.
He will be loved, talked about, laughed about, listened to, and remembered for the rest of our lives.
