Patricia "Patty" Jean Watwood Johnson was born in Norton, Kansas on September 11, 1941, to Bonner "Watty" and Velma (Tibbetts) Watwood. She passed away in Tulsa on February 24, 2025. Her family moved to Tulsa in June of 1944. Patty graduated from Tulsa Webster High School in 1959. She attended the University of Oklahoma where she studied journalism. Patty married William "Bill" Johnson on December 29, 1962 in Tulsa. They had three daughters: Carrie Johnson, Kate Buster, and Jennie McLeod (Brent).
Patty worked as a reporter at the Kiowa County Star Review newspaper. She was the co-owner of Ace Hardware and Patty's with her husband, Bill. She also worked in the Kiowa County clerk's office.
Patty is survived by her three daughters, Carrie Johnson of Tulsa, Kate Buster of Tulsa, and Jennie McLeod and husband Brent of Stillwater, her twin sister Peggy and husband George of Bixby. Granddaughters Nicole Buster Rockenhaus and husband Andrew of Broken Arrow, Kayla Buster of Broken Arrow, Megan McLeod Smith and husband Josh of Maplewood, NJ, and Bailey McLeod of Stillwater. She is also survived by her special sister-in-law Sharon Johnson of Andice, TX. And many nieces and nephews.
Patty was preceded in death by her favorite person/husband Bill, her parents, and sisters Caroline and husband Lyle Brown, and Joanne and husband Wilbanks Smith. Her brother-in-law Jim Johnson. Two son-in-laws Blake Woolf and Jerry Buster.
Patty never met a stranger, and rarely forgot a name. Sometimes this was a blessing, and sometimes it caused her daughters great embarrassment. It often caused a simple trip anywhere to take much longer than it should have. It also produced great pride to be known as "Patty Johnson's daughter/ granddaughter." Patty was a huge wrestling fan, and that same love trickled down to her daughters and granddaughters. She was a talented seamstress, and did all of her sewing on a 1959 Singer sewing machine. She refused to ever get a new one. Sewing was how she relaxed. Patty was chosen as the 1985 Hobart citizen of the year. People often did not realize that Bill was the one who actually grew up in Hobart and not Patty.
