Mattie Botone

March 28, 1925 — June 18, 2026

Mattie Botone, 101 years young, passed away peacefully with family by her side, from this life on June 18th, 2026. Mattie was born on March 28, 1925, by a midwife at the old home place south of the Apache Wye. She attended several schools including Riverside Indian School, Anadarko Schools and a Catholic School near Tulsa, OK.

Mattie worked at several jobs which included South Community Hospital in OKC, White Dot Café in Anadarko, Riverside Indian School, and the Kiowa Tribe-CHR Community Health Representative where she retired in the early 2000's. As a CHR she worked tirelessly where she was often requested by the elders for her to transport them to their appointments late in the day. She would sometimes get back in the late evenings from those transports. They loved her.

Mattie was a member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma. She was a very kind, loving person and always helped anyone in need. She lived about 12 years in Santa Fe, NM and a year in Colorado as her husband, Leon Botone, sought jobs in teaching/coaching and law enforcement in New Mexico. Mattie was the matriarch of our family and the solid rock to rely on.

She is survived by her sons, Tom Botone of Carnegie, OK and Louis Nichols of Muskogee, OK.

Her grandchildren are Robert Botone of Anadarko, OK and his companion Benita Vasquez; Tiffany Botone of Anadarko and Monica Johanntoberns, Anadarko, OK and husband, Troy Johanntoberns. Mattie has 6 great-grandchildren: Mandi Botone of Fort Cobb, OK and her companion, Jason Walker; Julie Botone of Carnegie, OK and her companion Devin Robinett; Adryk Ware of Anadarko, OK; Lakyn Lujan of Anadarko, OK; Brandon Johanntoberns, Chickasha, OK and his companion Cheyenne Flores and Lauren Johanntoberns of Lawrence, KS.

3 great-great grandchildren: Dally Botone of Fort Cobb, OK; Leo Botone-Walker of Fort Cobb, Ok and Kyler Johanntoberns of Chickasha, OK.

2 dear Nieces, Joni Williams of Anadarko, OK and Judith Hunter-Ware of Anadarko, OK; 2 dear Nephews, Robert Alexander of Burns Flat, OK and Jerry Pau-Kune of Fort Cobb, OK and wife, Lavinia Pau-Kune. 1 dear Granddaughter, Dawn Williams of OKC, OK and her companion, David Dorrough. Numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and Great- Great Grandchildren.

They never hesitated to help our loved one at a moment's notice. Thank you for your gifts of love and support. Mattie helped raise numerous nieces and nephews and great grandkids. She loved them all dearly like her own children.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Lucille (Hawzipta) Taylor. Her husband, Leon Botone. Daughter in law, Janice Botone. Brothers: Sean Taylor, Robert "Bobby" Taylor, James Taylor and Pershing Taylor.
