Marion Donald McCathern

March 24, 1951 — July 1, 2026

Marion Donald McCathern, known to many as Don, was born March 24, 1951, in Spring Creek, Oklahoma, to Floyd and Myrtle McCathern. He passed away at his home in Gracemont, Oklahoma, on July 1, 2026, at the age of 75.

Don worked as a masonry contractor, where his handwrought works of laborious art still stand as a testament to his skill. He loved fishing, hunting, and being outdoors. He had a lifelong curiosity about how things worked, and had the habit of taking something apart just to put it back together again.

But, most of all, Don loved his family. He believed family was a bond formed through love, kindness, and a steadfast presence. To him, family was not defined by blood alone but by the love given, the lives touched, and the people held close. He built his family with his whole heart. He cherished visiting his grandchildren-never showing up without candy in his hand, and never forgetting french fries for his grandogs.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Myrtle (Shook) McCathern; his brothers Leslie and Eldon McCathern; and his cousin and dearest friends, Ron McCathern, Ralph Myers, and Charles McMillan.

He is survived by the love of his life, Shelia Church; his sons Jason McCathern of Anadarko, Oklahoma; Shane McCathern and wife Misty of Anadarko, Oklahoma; Austin McCathern of Anadarko, Oklahoma; his daughters Breezie Padgett and husband Wade of Anadarko, Oklahoma; Sonnie Allen and husband Casey of Gracemont, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Lyric Padgett and Lexi Padgett of Norman, Oklahoma; Asherah Padgett of Anadarko, Oklahoma; Ryan Padgett of Anadarko, Oklahoma; Deyton McCathern of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Shayna Kaulaity and husband Matthew of Lawton, Oklahoma; Kolby Bryant and Kash Bryant of Anadarko, Oklahoma; Caitlyn Gudgel of Cambridge, Minnesota; Greysen Allen and Gatlin Allen of Gracemont, Oklahoma; and three great-grandchildren Matthew, Phoenix, and Nico Kaulaity of Lawton, Oklahoma; sisters Yvonne McGaugh of Hinton, Oklahoma; Joan Underkoffler and husband Terry of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Connie Johnson and husband Marion of Spring Branch, Texas; Betty Evans and husband Charles of Allen, Texas; Anita Noland and husband Larry of The Colony, Texas; and brother Lonnie McCathern and wife Kim of Yukon, Oklahoma; as well as nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives.

May the waters be calm and the woods be still as he rests in eternal peace. He will be deeply missed.
