Loretta K. Weathers, 75, of Anadarko, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025. She was born on August 16, 1950 to Floyd Paul Weathers and Jean Horsechief Weathers.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Patricia Ann Lorentz; her maternal grandparents, John Spotted Horsechief and Alice Pickard; and her paternal grandparents, Abner Guy Weathers and Rachel Rebekah Weathers.
A proud alumna of the University of Oklahoma, Loretta earned her bachelor's degree in Political Science and a master's degree in Human Relations. She was a lifelong advocate for human rights, with a special passion for advancing Native rights. Loretta contributed to the research that supported the drafting of the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights in Muskogee, Oklahoma-an accomplishment that reflected her deep commitment to justice and equality.
Throughout her distinguished career, Loretta served as Hazardous Communication Coordinator at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, Occupational Safety and Health Specialist at Marshall Environmental Management in Oklahoma City and Workforce Investment Act Director for the Yavapai-Apache Nation in Camp Verde, Arizona. Her professional life was marked by compassion, integrity, and an unwavering dedication to the well-being of others.
Loretta was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord with all her heart. Her faith guided every aspect of her life and inspired all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Janell Miller and husband Greg Miller of Allen, Texas; Theresa Botello of Anadarko, Oklahoma; and Roberta Botello-Cross and husband Lonny Cross of Edmond, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Kayleigh Bumbarger and husband Michael Bumbarger of Plano, Texas; Uriah Stepp of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Gabriel Botello and Rachel Yandell, both of Edmond, Oklahoma; and her great-grandchildren, Katharine and Mary Bumbarger, and Hannah and Ariella Stepp.
Loretta is also survived by her sister, Beverly Shifflett and husband Talmadge Shiflett; her cousin, Michelle Hummingbird; her third cousin, Donna Shepherd; and her close friend, Johnny Lee Trevino.
Loretta's life was one of service, strength, and faith. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
A memorial service honoring her life will be held at the Wichita Community Building on November 1st at 11:00am
