Jason Ray Laird, 50, of Mountain View, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2026, in Altus, Oklahoma. Jason was born on April 7, 1976, in Hobart, Oklahoma, to Steve and Roxie (Pulliam) Laird.
Jason grew up in Mountain View, where he attended school and graduated from Mountain View High School in 1995. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy before beginning a career centered around law enforcement and serving others. In the Navy, he was a corpsman medically serving the Marines on multiple floats, then spent 7 years with a Search and Rescue team as a corpsman serving in California. He received a medical honorable discharge from the Navy.
After the Navy, Jason held many different roles. He spent some time working as a bounty hunter while completing a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in California. He then worked as a Fresno, California, police officer before returning to Oklahoma. He later served with the Kiowa County Sheriff's Office and as the Chief of Police for the Mountain View Police Department.
For more than two years, Jason served as an Oklahoma State Parks Ranger at Quartz Mountain State Park. He took pride in his work and enjoyed serving the people and communities around him including using his passion to equip fellow rangers with tactical training. Throughout his career, Jason built many friendships with fellow officers, rangers, coworkers, and members of the community.
Jason had a love for adventure and a bit of a thrill-seeking side. He enjoyed anything that got his adrenaline going and never shied away from a new experience. Some of his hobby included skydiving, basejumping, climbing, paragliding, competitive markman, kayaking and jujitsu. He lived life with a sense of adventure and was always looking for the next exciting thing to do. He loved his fur babies, Luna and Popo, two beautiful Belgium Malinois.
Jason was well respected by those who knew and worked alongside him. From serving his country in the Navy to his many years in law enforcement and his time with Oklahoma State Parks, serving others was a big part of Jason's life.
Jason will be deeply missed by his family, friends, coworkers, fellow officers, and his Oklahoma State Parks family. His friendship, adventurous spirit, and many years of service to his country and community will always be remembered.
