James V. Barnes, 79, of Roosevelt, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home, on May 13, 2026. He was born on May 21, 1946, in Roosevelt, Oklahoma, to Jefferson and Helen Barnes. He graduated from Gotebo High School in 1965. Following high school, he proudly served his country in the Oklahoma Army National Guard for 38 years, 10 months, & 15 days as a mechanic and worked at MATES #72 for 18 years, retiring after many years of dedicated service. After retiring, James spent many years welding at Phillips Welding in Roosevelt, Oklahoma.
James met the love of his life, Betty Jane Armstrong, and the two were united in marriage on June 7, 1968, in Hobart, Oklahoma. Together, they shared 54 wonderful years raising their six children: Kenny, Bobby, Phyllis, Anna, James, and Kendra. James was a devoted husband, Dad, and Papa who found his greatest joy in his family.
James was known for his kind heart, steady presence, and willingness to help anyone in need. He loved spending time with family, visiting with friends, and supporting his community. His favorite pastime was attending sporting events that featured his kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews and anyone else he counted as family. He rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on. James will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Barnes; son, Kenny Roach; and parents, Jefferson and Helen Barnes. Brothers Tom Barnes, Carl Barnes, Roy Lee Barnes, William Barnes, and Robert Eugene "Goober" Barnes. Sisters Mildred Crow, Edith Walker, Helen Iverson, and Faye Barnes.
