Herschelene Rumell Latham, 92, of Sentinel, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, in Elk City, Oklahoma. She was born on June 3, 1933, to Herschel and Josephine (Duncan) Miller in Sentinel, Oklahoma. Herschelene grew up and attended school in Port, while in school she was active in band and basketball. She graduated from Port High School in 1951. Herschelene married the love of her life, Ted Latham on March 22, 1951, in Sentinel, Oklahoma. To this union were born two children: Aquilla and Aubrey. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. They were active in farming throughout their life. Hershey was a member and past president of the Better Home Club, Eastern Star, and Port Country Cousins. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. Her hobbies were painting, sewing, collecting recipes, and playing cards. Hershey belonged to a bridge club. She accepted Jesus at the age of 13, and did her best to live for him. Hershey taught Sunday school for all ages. She helped with the Awana program for several years and served on many committees in the First Baptist Church in Sentinel. Hershey spent the last five years in the Baptist Village at Elk City and became the plant lady growing violets and caring for all the plants. She developed special friendships and was the resident Sunday School teacher. Chaplain Billy Smith always said "she kept the Lord first". Hershey will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
