He worked at auto dealerships as a mechanic until 1982 when he was able to open his own garage at his home, and had Humphrey Garage until February, 2025 when he decided to officially retire.

On September 21st, 1967 he was drafted into the army. On December 10th, 1968 he married his sweetheart Donna Carol Holman, they made their home in San Antonio while he was in boot camp, she returned to Rocky while he served in South Korea. He was an avid history fan, especially towards the WWII era. If you found him in the house he would be watching his favorites of Gunsmoke, The Andy Griffith Show, any show that was about guns and ammo, working on the older cars, a good western or WWII movie.

He enjoyed racing several years, starting out racing at Barry Diffendaffer's place with neighbors and friends, went on to racing Modified Midgets at Black Widow Speedway and Fort Cobb.

He enjoyed going to watch his sons in their sports and his grandson's games. He loved spending time with his family anytime the opportunity came up, especially his grandchildren. No one was a stranger. He would help anyone that he could.

He had a passion for the old 90 special and Super 92 Massy Harris and he hit pay dirt at an auction one weekend and bought 4 combines for a total of $200 which consisted of two90 specials and two Super 92 Massy Harris's. He was able to get one 90 special going and harvested with it for a few years until one he coveted in Rocky came up for sale and came home with a Super 92 and ran it until the summer of 2024. He also had a collection of 4-1960s Minneapolis Moline tractors and had 2 running. He enjoyed being able to harvest his little hobby farm around the homeplace.
