Gerald Wayne Collins

March 13, 1943 — August 16, 2026

Gerald Wayne Collins Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and proud member of the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes, was born March 13, 1943, to Claude Lamar and Winona Collins in Lawton, Oklahoma. He passed away August 16, 2026, in Lawton at the age of 83.

He graduated from Riverside Indian School and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he attended the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1976.

He dedicated his career to serving Native communities, working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and later the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes. In the early 1990s, he began his long and distinguished career with the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes, proudly serving until his retirement in 2018.

During his years with the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes, he served in numerous positions and on various boards and commissions. He helped secure millions of dollars in resources and played an important role in the development of facilities that continue to serve the Wichita people today.

Gerald was deeply proud of his Wichita heritage. His dedication, knowledge, and commitment to his people made a lasting difference, and his contributions will continue to benefit the Tribe and future generations.

In 1969, he married Marilyn Haumpy. His family was one of his greatest joys, and he loved watching and cheering on his children and grandchildren at their sporting events. Gerald had a wonderful sense of humor and loved making people laugh. No matter the situation, he could always find a way to sneak in a joke and bring a smile to those around him. His laughter, humor, and playful spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed going to the casino. Above all, Gerald will be remembered for his love of family, his pride in his Wichita heritage, his dedication to serving his people, and the joy and laughter he brought into the lives of others.
