Gene Cain

June 11, 1944 — February 18, 2026

Gene Howard Cain was born on June 11, 1944, to Euliss and Flora (Wilkerson) Cain. He passed away surrounded by his family on February 18, 2026 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Gene grew up and attended school in Atwood, Oklahoma where he graduated in 1962.

On September 1, 1962, Gene married the love of his life, Judy Ramsey, in Atwood, Oklahoma. Together they had two children, Marty and Cheryl. Gene and Judy began their lives together in Holdenville, Oklahoma. Gene attended the School of Banking and Business, once completing the program he worked at First National Bank Holdenville. While living in Holdenville they had a neighbor who was an Oklahoma Highway Patrolman. Gene would ride with him some and that is when he decided that is what he wanted to do. He continued to work at the bank until he was old enough to apply for the OHP Academy.

Gene was a graduate of the 25th OHP Academy. A week before graduation they found out he would be assigned to Caddo County. He reported to duty September 25, 1969. At that time Gene and Judy began their life in Anadarko, Oklahoma. Gene proudly served Caddo County as a State Trooper with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol in Troop G in Lawton for 30 years. The very next day after retiring from OHP he changed uniforms. He went to work at Caddo County Sheriff's Office as a deputy for Sheriff Butch Hamilton. In 2001 he was elected Sheriff of Caddo County, where he faithfully served from 2001 through 2015. During his tenure, he also served as a member of the Oklahoma Sheriffs' Association Board from 2007 to 2015. His dedication to law enforcement and his community spanned more than 47 years. Gene also served on the Washita Valley Community Action Council, as well as a board member/chairperson for the First Christian Church in Anadarko.

When Gene wasn't protecting Caddo County he was often found in his yard, his garden, taking care of the fish pond, feeding the fish, and his relaxing in his hammock. He made sure to attend any events he could for his kids, grandkids, and his special neighbor kids. He loved to be outside. Gene was very proud of both his children. When the grandkids came along they were his world. Two great granddaughters arrived to just add to his joy. Gene loved kids and they loved him

Gene will be remembered for his steady leadership, integrity, strong work ethic, and deep commitment to the citizens he served. Above all, he cherished his family and the many friendships he built throughout his life.

He leaves behind a legacy of service, honor, and devotion that will not be forgotten.
