Dorothy L Mahoney

Dorothy Mahoney, age 79 of Hobart OK, departed from this life on May 26, 2026, after a brief illness. She was born on May 1, 1947, to John H. Gilbert and Isabel Kern Gilbert in Mountain View OK. The family moved to Hobart in 1952 where Dorothy went to school, graduating Hobart High School in 1965. She met the love of her life, LeRoy Mahoney, in October of 1964 and after a brief courtship they were married two days after she graduated. The couple moved to Southern California where LeRoy was stationed and were joined by their daughter Charree in 1966. They moved back to Oklahoma in 1968 and had their son Roy. They moved to Hobart in 1974.

Dorothy's life was filled with both joy and heartache, but she persevered through it all. She gave her all to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She loved to read, do puzzles and sew but her most favorite pastime was quilting. She truly enjoyed the hours she spent with her quilting buddies between the classes at the Vo-Tech and the shop hops they went on.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 61 years, LeRoy Mahoney of Hobart, her daughter Charree Mahoney of Lubbock TX, grandchild Dara/Chandler Mahoney of Alpine TX and granddaughter Reghan Mahoney of Hobart. She is also survived by her beloved nephew Chad Gilbert and his wife Misty of Marlow OK and their sons Jace, Cade, Clete and Jett. Other survivors include 4 sisters in law, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends.

Dorothy is proceeded in death by her son Roy Mahoney, her granddaughter Julia Mahoney, her parents John and Isabel Gilbert, and her four brothers Donald, Ron, Robert and LG.
