In Loving Memory of Donald Ray Terry November 26, 1940 - June 30, 2025
Don Terry, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away June 30th. Born on November 26, 1940, in Hobart, Oklahoma, to Oscar and Helen Terry, Don grew up moving throughout western Oklahoma, West Texas, and California as his father managed grain elevators. Regardless of where life took him, Mountain View, Oklahoma, was always home in his heart.
Known for his big smile and love of fast cars, Don married his childhood sweetheart, Sherlyn Kay Tracy, in 1967-a partnership marked by deep devotion and enduring love for their family. He proudly served two years in the U.S. Army as a missile mechanic, then continued his work with missile systems at Fort Sill Army Base.
Don earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Cameron University and launched a varied and successful career in sales, spanning farm implements, oil and gas, and ultimately insurance. He retired after 25 years with the Oklahoma Farm Bureau, where he served countless families and built enduring relationships.
In addition to his professional life, Don was the owner and operator of TerryCo, where he spent years sandblasting and painting homes, machinery, and buildings across Oklahoma and surrounding states. There was truly nothing he couldn't build or repair, and he never hesitated to offer a helping hand to those in need.
Above all, Don was a family man. He and Sherlyn poured their hearts into raising their two daughters, Tracy Ann Fairless and Julie Rae Hendrix. Family vacations were a high priority and created lasting memories. He took immense pride in his six cherished grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Don's legacy lives on in the lives he touched through his kindness, dedication, and steady presence. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Helen Terry and brother, Johnny Terry and his beloved wife of 58 years, Sherlyn. He is survived by his daughters, Tracy Ann Fairless and husband Anthony Gelvin and Julie Rae Hendrix and husband, Randy Hendrix; six grandchildren, Brianna Phillips, Kaylee Johnston and husband, Noah; Ashton John Fowler, wife Hailey and great-granddaughter, Evelyn; Blake Hendrix; Savannah Hendrix, and Grant Hendrix; and four nephews, Rusty Fleming and wife Regina; Ronnie Fleming and wife Lisa; John Milton Tracy III and wife Natalie; Jay Tracy; brother-in-law, John Tracy II and wife Mickey and many extended family and friends who were blessed to know him.
Don's life will be celebrated in late September at the Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Mt. View Cemetery or to Mobile Meals at the Mt. View Senior Citizen Center.
