Diana Genevieve (Jenny) Kauahquo passed from this life on January 11, 2026 at the age of 88 in Hobart, Oklahoma. She was born December 22nd, 1937 in Pawnee, OK to Nelson Roughface and Leona Big Goose Roughface and given the Ponca name Ni-bah Hah Shah. Her maternal grandparents were Leonard Big Goose Sr and Leota Hinman Yellowberry. Her paternal grandparents were Paul Roughface and Sarah Not Afraid of Horse.
Diana attended Pawnee Boarding School (Gravy U) and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1955. After graduating high school, she attended Okmulgee Tech where she met the love of her life, Richard Kauahquo. They married on January 2nd, 1960 in Hobart, Oklahoma. They later moved to San Antonio, Texas and Ponca City, Oklahoma but established their family in Hobart. Diana began working at Hobart Head Start as a bus driver while continuing her college career through WOSC and SWOSU to obtain her associates degree. She later transitioned to the RECAP/CADC office as the Health Coordinator for the next 40 years. She enjoyed retirement by taking long drives around town with Richard and taking care of their grandbabies and great grandbabies who were their pride and joy. Diana loved being a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hobart where she sang in the choir, played in the bell choir, and participated in church activities. Diana was a proud member of the Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma and became a Ponca Tribal Director for the American Indian Exposition for 5 years. Her husband Richard was a Kiowa Tia Piah Society headsman so they were well known in the powwow circle. With their strong tribal connections they established over the years, they were loved by all.
Diana is proceeded in death by her husband, Richard Paul Kauahquo, their daughter, Jobyna Kauahquo LittleCalf, brothers Bronson Roughface, Alva Roughface, Thomas Roughface Sr, and Lance Carney. Sisters Bernice Davis, Sarah Paul, Mona Baken, Evona Williams, Nellie O'Bregon, and grandson Christopher Rudman. She is survived by daughter Janice Rae Beaver and sons Ernest Paul Kauahquo and Phillip Scott Kauahquo all of Hobart. Adopted children Daniella Nieto, Jason Tiger, and Jana Broussard. Grandchildren are Sarah Kauahquo and her children Lani, Saray and Xxayden, Nicole Standifer and her children Payton and Piper, Shannon Counts and her children Payshince and Leviathan, Kyle Beaver, Michelle and Waylon Hamlett and their 6 children, Kaylee Stockton and her children Bryan and Bradlee.
Services for Diana Kauahquo will be at the First United Methodist Church in Hobart on Thursday, January 16th 2026 with a feast starting at noon and services starting at 2:00 pm then burial at Elk Creek Tribal Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday January 15th with a wake service at 7:00 pm at Ray and Martha's Funeral Home in Hobart.
