Cheryl Ann Haury peacefully slipped from her earthly body while she slept and beyond the veil on June 23, 2026. While her family grieves her absence, they rejoice in the promise of eternal life that Cheryl held so closely throughout her life. She was a woman of unwavering Christian faith who believed God had a purpose in every season and that even life's greatest hardships were never without meaning.
Born to the late Leland "Moss" Randolph and Nancy Haury Talamantes, in Carnegie Oklahoma, Cheryl lived a life defined by love, resilience, laughter, and compassion. She lived in California, Oklahoma and Arkansas during her time here on earth. She was proud of her Kiowa heritage and treasured her tribe, its traditions, its culture, and its people. Regardless of where she was she always knew where home was. Her identity as a Kiowa woman was deeply woven into the fabric of who she was, and she carried that pride throughout her life.
Those who knew Cheryl will remember her infectious laugh, playful sense of humor, and remarkable ability to make others smile even during life's most difficult moments. She possessed both strength and tenderness in equal measure. Cheryl was outspoken and fearless when protecting the people she loved. She may have been 5 foot something but that woman stood 6 ft tall anywhere she went. As those closest to her often said, she had "both the bark and the bite," yet beneath that strong exterior was an incredibly gentle heart overflowing with kindness, empathy, and unconditional love. She cared deeply for others and never hesitated to offer encouragement, a listening ear, or a helping hand.
Anyone who knew Cheryl knew she was one of a kind. She had a silly, infectious sense of humor and could make people laugh even on their hardest days. She believed that a smile could brighten someone's burden, and she carried that light with her wherever she went. She had a heart molded in gods hands designed to forgive unconditionally. Even through life's greatest struggles, she remained hopeful, trusting that God always had her back. She believed that every hardship had a purpose and that God's plan, no matter how painful, was all apart of his the divine journey designed and sculpted out just for her to walk.
Above all else, Cheryl's greatest joy and proudest accomplishment are her children. Her love knew no limits, and the legacy she leaves behind lives on through her children, grandchildren, and all whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her devoted life partner, Shane Drummond. Shane's sincere, calm and gentle nature paired well with the spiciness Cheryl brought into their lives. He devoted himself to Cheryl in almost every way. She needed his gentle, patient and kind soul to feel the safe love she needed and deserved.
She is lovingly remembered by her children:
Journey Byrd and wife, Summer Byrd; their children, Atticus and Diana.
Julianne Faith Brewer and her fiancé, Ali Nikoopour, along with their beloved pets, Kibby and Cosmo, and their fish, Dayman.
Nancy Nicole Lee Haury and her spouse, Vilivili J. Fitisemanu; their children, Joshua, Nephi, Leolani, Honey, Lovely, and Vavau; and expected one more in August.
Robert Berry and spouse, Kourtney Naylor; their son, Abel Berry.
Michelle Sky Berry, who preceded her mother into Heaven and was surely waiting with open arms to welcome Cheryl home. Michelle's daughter, River Baker, continues her mother's legacy.
Jason Herrell (Son)
Kiowa Grace Minniear and spouse, Tyler Minniear; their son, Mark and daughters Everly, Claire and Chloe.
Cheryl is Preceded in death by her great grandfather Johnny Haury S.R., her grandmother Etheline "Boots" Tofpi Tsalote, her Father Leland "Moss" Randolph and her mother Nancy Haury Talamantes. Cheryl is survived by her siblings, Francis Haury, Melissa Roberts, and Thomasine Roberts, along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, dear friends, and countless others whose lives were forever changed by knowing her.
Cheryl shared seven beloved children with Fredrick Brewer, who loved her fiercely from the moment they met. It's is said that as soon as she saw the shy awkward 18 year old Freddy try to hide from her, she knew he was hers for life. Together they built the family that became Cheryl's greatest legacy, and the love they shared through their children will continue for generations to come.
Those who knew Cheryl also knew her love of angels and butterflies, both symbols of hope, comfort, and transformation that reflected her own beautiful spirit. Those who knew Cheryl also knew her love for songs that stretched across many different genres of music. She never met a stranger and had an extraordinary gift for making people feel seen, loved, and accepted. Cheryl's friends loved and cherished her deeply. Her friends became family, relationships built and forged through fire and with time, creating unbreakable bonds. Her strength inspired others, her faith encouraged them, and her laughter brought light wherever she went. One of Cheryl's favorite meals was Indian tacos, and in her honor, that is exactly what she requested be served following her funeral service, a final meal shared with family and friends, just as she would have wanted.
Though our hearts are broken, we find peace in knowing Cheryl is whole again, embraced by her Savior and reunited with those who went before her. Her faith was the foundation of her life. She lived believing that God never abandoned His children and that His love could carry anyone through life's darkest valleys.
Her love will continue to guide her family, her faith will continue to inspire them, and her memory will forever remain a blessing.
As Scripture reminds us:
Philippians 4:6
Don't worry about anything, instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.
This beautiful scripture was one that held great meaning and weight between Cheryl and Summer Byrd. This was graciously shared to us by Cheryl's Lovely Daughter in law Summer Byrd, wife of Journey Byrd. She cared for and spent a lot of her time with Cheryl over the years. Cheryl nicknamed her, her "Little Indian Princess". She filled a void in Cheryl that none could match and a love that only a daughter can give. Summer was and always will be one of Cheryl's Daughters.
This Poem was written by Cheryl's daughter, Julianne Faith Brewer as a tribute to her mother Cheryl.
Cheryl loved poetry. She found beauty in words, in nature, in faith, and in the stories people carried with them. In many ways, she was a walking poem herself full of grace, strength, compassion, and quiet wisdom. She lived her life in a way that inspired the people around her, and Julianne captured that beautifully in this poem.
This isn't just a poem about Cheryl. It's a reflection of who Cheryl was: a proud Kiowa woman, a woman of faith, a loving daughter, a precious niece and granddaughter, a keeper of stories, a believer in butterflies, angels, hope, and above all, love. It is written in her image and from the heart Cheryl's body created and held first. A heart that will forever emulate a part of her mother's.
"Butterflies Soar, and Angels Sing."
There are some souls so warm and bright,
Whose love still lingers in the light.
Though earthly footsteps fade from view,
Their spirit lives in all we do.
With gentle strength and godly grace,
They brought a calm to every place.
Their hearts were full, their love ran deep-
A bond that time could never keep.
A proud Kiowa woman, strong and wise,
With courage shining in her eyes.
She carried stories of days gone by,
Like soaring eagles through the sky.
Her ancestors walked beside her each day,
Guiding her gently along life's way.
She honored the path they'd walked before,
Their strength alive forevermore.
She saw in butterflies a hopeful sign,
A gentle promise, pure, divine-
That every ending brings new wings,
And every soul still learns to sing.
She trusted angels, ever near,
To calm each heart and dry each tear.
With unseen wings and hands so kind,
They never left a soul behind.
When a butterfly floats gently by,
Or a soft breeze whispers through the sky,
I know that love has found a way
To brighten even the darkest day.
Though grief may leave an empty chair,
A quiet silence in the air,
A place once filled with laughter's light,
Now resting softly out of sight,
Love is stronger than goodbye;
It lives beneath each open sky.
Its roots grow deep within the heart-
A bond that death can't pull apart.
Some leave moments we recall,
Others leave a love through all-
A legacy of grace and light
That shines beyond the darkest night.
Those are the gifts time cannot take,
The memories no sorrow can unmake.
Until the day our hearts can mend,
Love walks beside us to the end.
And when our journey here is through,
Love will lead us home anew.
We'll meet again, forevermore,
Where Butterflies Soar, and Angels Sing.
