In the summer of 1968, on August 14, a baby girl was born to Wanda Jean Scallion in Hobart, Oklahoma. She was given the beautiful name of Chanice Scallion. Somewhere along the way, she picked up the nickname (RED), which she was effectively called the rest of her life. She lived in Hobart through her high school years, playing basketball and running track. She was especially good at track, winning numerous medals and awards, also qualifying for the State Track meet on several occasions. After highschool, she resided in Hobart for a number of years where three children were born unto her: Torrey Shawn Scallion, Latasha Smith, and LaToya Smith. After the birth of her children, she moved to Altus, Oklahoma where she worked in the food and hospitality industries on Altus Air Force Base. After living in Altus for a number of years, she moved to Lawton, Oklahoma where she resided till her passing. Chanice loved listening to music and being around family. She also loved to make others laugh, as well as to laugh, I think it was to show off those dimples. A million dollar smile with attitude to match, she was known and loved by many, but will be dearly missed by all.
Chanice was preceded in death by her mother, Wanda Jean Scallion; grand parents, Milton and Tenzie Scallion; aunts, Katie Jordane, Geraldine (Sister) Scallion, Oretha Porter, Juanita Martin, Margaret Davis, Ethal Washington, Vera Scallion-Seymore; uncles, Milton(Sun) Scallion Jr., Joe Scallion, Robert (Stomp Daddy) Scallion and a host of cousins.
Chanice leaves to cherish her memory, her son. Torrey Shawn Scallion of Lawton, OK; two daughters Latasha Smith and Latoya Smith both of Lawton, OK; brothers Lorenzo (Batman) Scallion and sister-in-law Edna Scallion of Chickasha, OK, Jimmy Dale Robinson and Bobby Ray Robinson; sisters Vonda Fields, Debra Gildon, Earnest Marie Garett, Betty Durrough, Ikeither Robinson, Lisa Robinson, Jennifer Lane. Two grandchildren Zolae Evans and Zillion Evans of Lawton, OK. Two aunts Claudette Scallion of Hobart, OK and Merlene Scallion of Douglas, Georgia. Two uncles Victor Scallion of Hobart, OK, and Henry Scallion of Hobart, OK. A host of relatives and friends too long to list, as well as her church family and anyone else I may have missed.
