Buford Franklin Charles

Buford Franklin Charles, 78, of Mountain View, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2024, in Carnegie, Oklahoma. He was born on November 16, 1945, to Bufford and Vera Charles in Carnegie, Oklahoma. Buford grew up and attended school in Carnegie, graduating from Carnegie High School in 1964. Buford also known to some as "Buddy" married his wife, Susan Ann Dean on May 20, 1966, in Mountain View. He attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University and received his Bachelor of Arts degree.
Buford served his country for 25 years in the Army and the Oklahoma Army National Guard and retired as a First Sergeant. During that time he received numerous commendations and awards for his service. The United States Field Artillery Association bestowed upon Buford the Honorable Order of St. Barbara which recognizes those individuals who have demonstrated the highest standards of integrity and moral character; displayed an outstanding degree of professional competence; served the United States Army with selflessness; and contributed to the promotion of the Field Artillery in ways that stand out in the eyes of the recipient's seniors, subordinates and peers alike. He was a member of the National Machine Gun Team for Oklahoma. His motto was that of the Army Artillery: "On time. On target"
Buford worked at Dolese Bros for 35 years and retired as a supervisor. He loved to fish, watch the Oklahoma City Thunder, OU Sooners and Dallas Cowboys and reading science fiction books. Buford was also a Volunteer fireman for Carnegie and Mountain View, a member of the American Legion in both Mountain View and Carnegie. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gotebo. Buford was always known by everyone as being friendly and having a smile. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Grandchildren: Robert Lowe and Rachel Lowe, Edmond, OK

Preceded in death by his Parents: Bufford and Vera Charles, Sisters: Dorothy Kirkland, Worta Jean Charles and Geraldine Charles, Niece and Nephew-in-law: Tom and Fatima Petty.
