Brenda Galloway Bass of Cordell, age 83, was born on March 6, 1942 in Rocky, Oklahoma. She made her long awaited- trip to be with her childhood sweetheart and loving husband, Larry Bass, in heaven on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
Brenda was born to Standley and Daphene (Brock) Galloway. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Larry, her sister Barbara Galloway Fite, and her nephew Jay Fite. She is survived by her daughter Jana Chandler and husband Ron, and son Jy Bass and wife Dena. She has four grandchildren that she was exceptionally proud of, Drey Nickel, Bria Nickel, Summer Bass, Jacob Bass and wife Madison, and a great-grandson August Bass. She was also blessed with a brother Tim Galloway and wife Jackie. Her family meant so much to her and she kept everyone informed regarding the lives of her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews as well as their children plus her favorite cousins.
Everyone also knew that Brenda was an animal lover and always had a dog in her lap. Her two fur babies, Paco and Doddie, were always with her.
Brenda and Larry met in third grade and ended up spending a lot of time together as their class was small with only 13 students by their Senior year. As a cheerleader in high school, she loved cheering on the team during basketball season and was a proud "Rocky Buffalo." As valedictorian, Brenda said Larry often cheated off her tests. They became engaged their senior year of high school and married shortly after graduation.
They began married life in Lubbock, Texas and then moved to Oklahoma City where their daughter, Jana was born in 1963. Jy was born in 1969 in Frederick, Oklahoma. They finally settled down in Cordell where they owned the Washita Farm Service. Brenda loved working with her husband but admitted sometimes togetherness was a little much.
After the oil boom bottomed out in the 1980's, they sold their business and Brenda went to work for Evett's Drug in Cordell. She was there for 17 years. Even when Larry became sick with and needed full time care, she continued to work while taking care of him. Larry passed away in 2006 at the age of 64. They didn't get a chance to retire and grow old together, but their love story and lives are what their children strive to emulate.
