Bert Allen Hunter Sr., 71, of Anadarko Oklahoma, passed away
peacefully at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico on January 11th, 2026.
Bert was born on June 24th, 1954, in Lawton Oklahoma, to James Hunter Jr. and Trinia Lou Stumblingbear. He attended school and
later graduated from Fort Sill Indian School. Bert went on to pursue his education at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence,
Kansas, where he earned his Associate's Degree in Graphic Arts. While he was there, he was also selected to participate in Olympic boxing tryouts.
Bert was an artist who worked in stone sculpting and painting. Through his artwork, he created designs that gave voice to his Kiowa and Delaware heritage. Much of his work was sought after by private collectors, as well as galleries and museums in Santa Fe. In addition to his artistic career, he worked as an electrical molder for Thomas & Betts in Albuquerque for 20 years. Bert was committed to helping
others and volunteered for over 10 years at St. Martin's Homeless Shelter.
He also enjoyed playing baseball and participated in various city and county leagues in both Oklahoma and New Mexico. He was a member of the Native American Church and enjoyed singing Kiowa church hymns and traditional Native American Church songs. Many of these songs were passed down from his Kiowa grandfathers, and he
preserved them as a legacy of sacred tribal memory.
Bert had five children: Patricia Little Chief, Felicia Charcoal, Bert Hunter Jr., Trinia Hunter, and Danielle Hunter. He had four
grandchildren: Alana, Briana, Ivan, and Isaiah.
Bert Allen Hunter Sr. will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
