Barbara Charlene Rhoades

January 5, 1941 — August 20, 2025

Barbara Charlene Farris Rhoades went to be with Jesus on August 20, 2025, at the age of 84. She was born on January 5, 1941, to Avis and Pearl Upshaw Farris. She was the fourth of thirteen children: Avis Paul Farris, Rhetta Jane Farris Reynolds, Franklin Calvin Farris, Houston Rea Farris, Nancy Ann Farris Crook, Zollie Lynn Farris, Yuel Dean Farris, Mark Coleman Farris, Lawrence Coleman Farris, Altus Avene Farris Baker, David Oral Farris, and Mary Jewel Farris Lester.

The Farris children learned to work at an early age and were taught to do things around the farm such as milking cows, chopping cotton, and pulling cotton. Charlene was put on a tractor at a young age and loved to combine wheat, haul wheat, or do whatever else there was to be done. More importantly than teaching them hard work, their parents led the family in following Jesus. Her parents taught her about the power of prayer, and she believed that was what kept them out of trouble all of those years.

In October of 1959, Charlene married Harry Earnest Rhoades of Warwick, Maryland. They had five children: Barbara June Rhoades Brownridge, Harry Avis Rhoades, James Dean Rhoades (Jimmy), Houston Lee Rhoades (Hoody), and Nancy Lynn Rhoades. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law, who were very precious to her: Penny Rhoades, Tammy Rhoades, Daphne Rhoades, and Liesa Williams, as well as her 11 grandchildren: Jacob Rhoades, Levi Rhoades, Lawrence Rhoades, Jaclyn Tyler, Amanda Rhoades, Lindsay Brownridge, Kristan Lankford, Aaron Heffern, Melissa Heffern, Chelsea Troyer, and Chadley Rhoades. She also leaves behind 19 great-grandchildren and one on the way, not to mention a multitude of relatives and lifelong friends.

Charlene was known to be a hard worker and spent almost 30 years working for Haliburton Services. Upon retirement, she did some driving for her son Jimmy Rhoades. She loved watching softball and the Oklahoma Sooners, but nothing made her happier than watching her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids play sports.

Charlene was preceded in death by her mom, dad, brother Paul, sisters Jane and Nancy, and brother Calvin.
