Barbara Janel Grubb Craig passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2026. Janel was born in Carnegie, Oklahoma on September 12, 1948, to John Alexander Grubb and Flo Beth Jackson Grubb. Janel's family relocated to Santa Clara, California when she was a young girl. Although she spent most of her childhood years growing up in the Bay Area, she felt most at home in Oklahoma where she spent time with her extended family every summer. She loved being with her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and maintained devoted relationships with them throughout the years.
Janel welcomed her three children, who were all born within three-and-a-half years during the
1970s. She devoted all of her time to her kids while they were growing up, and they were her
pride and joy. She was active as a classroom mom and even served as PTO President. She was so special that many of her kids' friends just called her 'Mom.' She instilled strong values in her children and held high expectations for each of them, always providing a safe and loving place to land.
As much as Janel believed her crowning achievements were her three children, she felt that
having grandchildren was the most rewarding experience in life. Her grandkids call her 'Amma,'
and she is cherished by each of them. She would spoil them and send them home, and they
would count the days until they could see her again. She gave all of her children, their spouses,
and grandkids her dedicated attention, and made each one feel special. Her love was
unconditional and her wisdom and encouragement will be greatly missed.
Janel was an avid reader, a stickler for the proper use of grammar, and she loved listening to
sixties music and old hymns. She was also a skilled storyteller and invested time with her kids to teach them about the family's history. She had a brilliant sense of humor and taught her children and grandkids the art of being sarcastic.
Janel worked alongside her husband, Dean, running the office at Porterville Electric Company
for nearly forty years and was connected to many people through their business. She is well
known for her thoughtfulness and generosity, often shown through her celebration of birthdays
and holidays. She would prepare enough dinner and homemade pie for an army of people just incase others stopped in. She had a gift of making those around her feel loved and special, and we think she must have coined the phrase, "Love You More."
Janel leaned on her faith throughout her life, and though we miss her immensely, we are grateful to know that she is with Jesus, experiencing the fullness of His peace and celebrating a life well lived.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to those who helped care for her during her
journey with cancer at Comprehensive Blood and Cancer Center, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center,
Dignity Health-Bakersfield Memorial Hospital, and Compassionate Care Hospice.
Janel is survived by her husband of 30 years Dean Craig; her children Amy Trammell (Keith),
Steven Parnell (Tracy), and Jesica Hanson (Joseph); her stepchildren Kailani Henry and Michael Craig (Susan); her beloved grandchildren Zachary and Katie Angle, Jacob and Emma Parnell, Nicholas and Garrett Hanson, Brian Manson (Cheyenne), and Hanna Craig; two great-grandsons; her sister Kathy Spencer; and numerous extended family members and friends.
