Barbara Anne Brewer, 87
Born in Tuscola, Illinois; she grew up in Sentinel, Oklahoma and passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Barbara was born on July 11, 1938, to Frances Elizabeth Taylor and John Douglas Smith and was later adopted by Gifford S Wheeler. She was a loving mother, a hard worker. She worked for Kmart for over 45 years and had a part time job as well for that entire time to provide for her two young children. She participated with charitable causes her entire life, from coordinating a clothes closet for her community to being on the city council to chairing a fundraiser that provided a new car for a family to transport their child to leukemia treatments. She enjoyed many activities with friends. She played cards. She loved doing puzzles and reading with her fan based B.J. Daniels book club she started and baking at Christmas. Upon retirement she found a love of travel and was able to cruises around the world with family.
She is survived by her daughter Kendra Jo Gurke and husband Brian Gurke; her son Keith Jarrett Cook and wife Sheri LaDawn Cook; her grandchildren Christopher Eden, Kyle Gurke, Caitlin Gurke Foy and husband Jeremy Foy, Kenneth Cook, and Elizabeth "Dusty" Cook; her great grandchildren: Mia Bella Eden, Alexandra Eden, Noah Burnham, Colin Foy, Ireland Foy, and Andrew Foy: her sister Sandra Chaney and her husband Lowell Chaney, her sister-in-law Karen Wheeler and numerous other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husbands: Travis Judson Brewer and Kenneth James Cook, her brother Francis Wheeler, her mother Frances Elizabeth Taylor Wheeler, her father John Douglas Smith and adopted father Gifford S Wheeler.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, that you make a donation to the Judah House in Cordell, or the First Baptist Church of Sentinel, Oklahoma.
