Alvin Ross Funkhouser passed away on April 13, 2026, surrounded by family. He was born October 8, 1939, at Hobart, OK, on his brother Kenneth's 15th birthday, to Ross & Nannie Sewell Funkhouser. Alvin attended school in Hobart, graduating with the class of 1957.
After graduating from high school, he farmed with his dad one year before accepting God's call to preach. Alvin often referred to preaching as "breaking bread for hungry people flavored with enough salt to make them thirsty for more." Alvin attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where he met Sue Ann Cecil. They were married September 2, 1962.
After graduation from SWOSU, they moved to Ft. Worth, TX, to study at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Their first son, Wesley, was born in Ft. Worth. They were later blessed with a daughter, Dena, a son, Travis, and another son, Nathan.
Alvin pastored several different churches in Oklahoma & Colorado. He began preaching at the Indian Mission in Geary, OK, while in college. He loved the old hymns, the book of Isaiah, and considered himself abundantly blessed.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Sue; children, Wes Funkhouser & wife Sharon, Sequim, WA; Dena Funkhouser Wittrock & husband Tom, Hudson Oaks, TX; Travis Funkhouser & wife Heather, of Hobart; and Nathan Funkhouser & wife Kyla, of Hobart, OK; brother, Billy Funkhouser & wife Karen, Hobart. He is survived by 8 grandchildren; Benjamin Funkhouser & wife Jenna of Portland, OR; Kelsey Funkhouser & fiancée Josh Thiesen, Portland, OR; Evan Funkhouser & wife Lindy, of Yukon; Ryanne Rangel & husband Chris, of Hobart; T.J. Wittrock, Hudson Oaks, TX; Koby Wittrock, Hudson Oaks, TX; Hudson Funkhouser & Maddux Funkhouser of Hobart, OK; and 2 great-grandchildren, Rhett and Wyatt Rangel, Hobart, OK
A host of nieces, nephews, and a host of other family & friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, Ross & Nannie; sisters, Willa Mae Harris & Juanita Pfenning, Betty Jo Standefer & Tiny Stephenson; and brothers, Kenneth & Loyd.
