ObituaryMarvin Dean Reed, Jr. was born September 19, 1965 in Muleshoe, Texas and died July 28, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nev. He was 52 years old and an enrolled member of the Kiowa Tribe. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2018 in Ray and Martha’s Funeral Home chapel in Anadarko with J.T. Goombi officiating.
Reed was the son of Marvin Dean Reed, Sr., and Mary Wetselline Reed. His paternal grandparents were Everett and Louise Reed, and his maternal grandmother was Zola Wetselline. He was married to Suzanne Torralba Reed and had two children: Jessica Reed and Devin Torralba. He also had three grandchildren by his daughter Jessica: Brooklynne, Braxton and Marilyn.
He attended primary schools in Fort Worth, Texas, with his secondary school education including Anadarko High School, Sequoyah Indian School and Riverside Indian School, where he was a 1984 graduate. He also attended Tarrant County Junior College in Fort Worth, Texas.
Reed’s work history includes working 15 years (1985-2000) for UV Tech Polymers, where he served as a quality control supervisor. He also worked from 2000-2005 for Nevada Packaging. From 2005 until his death, he was a long-distance truck driver (owner-operator) for companies that include Swift, Jim Palmer and Watkins-Shepherd.
He was an avid sports fan and played baseball successfully for both Sequoyah and Riverside Indian School. He played slow pitch softball in Forth Worth for several years, where his teams won several league championships. He also played Peewee Baseball with J.T. Goombi as coach.
Reed was preceded in death by his niece, Kara Reed; his spouse, Suzanne Torralba Reed; his son, Devin Michael Torralba; and his father, Marvin Dean Reed, Sr.
He is survived by his daughter, Jessica, of Moore, Okla.; his grandchildren, Brooklynne Marie Sweeden of Las Vegas, Nev., Braxton Taylor and Marilyn Taylor of Moore, Okla.; brother, Frank Reed of Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters, Sandra Reed and Dorthea Reed-Leukowicz of Las Vegas, Nev.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
